Advice models - English grammar

In a lot of situations in our daily lives we need to give advice to someone to do something or avoid something . In English we can provide advice in many ways.

Our lesson today is about this topic since we will review several ways to provide advice  both   is  mandatory formula or nice method .

Advice models - English grammar

First we have to know  the difference between advice and order .

If we want to direct a certain order to someone in English then we use the infinitive alone and this is a sharp and blunt way for example :

Stand up         Drink                  Sleep

But giving advices has its own ways . In this lesson we'll get to know them by examples

1-Should

Should be used for suggesting or non- mandatory advice and is considered one of the most flexible and nice formulas for examples :

You should eat a lot of vegetables and fruits

You should drink milk for breakfast

Hana  should take her medicine on time

They should sleep early

We need to know ( Should ) can comes with singular and collect and the verb comes after it without any additions

Should + Infinitive

Negative ( Should not )

Used to stop doing something wrong

for examples :

She shouldn't talk to her teacher that way

The babies shouldn't go out in this  bad weather

Request advice using should :

Also we can use ( Should ) to request the advice and in this case put

(should ) at the beginning for the question as a question tool .

for examples :

Should I apply for that job ?-

2-Had better

Also we can give advice by ( had better ) but, it's more severe formula, and it tends to be threatening and promising .

For examples :

You had better watch out for the teacher's explanation

You had better hear your parent's advices

She had better go to her grandpa

 They had better speak lowly

Had better + Infinitive

Negative ( Had better not )

We can also use the negative formula to terminate and prohibit

For example :

You had better not enter this room again

She had better not get louder than her father

3-Must

It also uses in English for advice but mandatory which should do it to avoid the consequences

for examples :

You must take a good rest

She must wash her hands well

 They must call me today

Must + Infinitive

Negative ( Mustn't )

Used to stop doing something to avoid the consequences :

 She mustn't bully her friend

 You mustn't eat  lots chocolate

 He  mustn't go out today

4- Have to

It's form of mandatory advice that doesn't give space for choice

for examples :

You have to keep your room clean

Sara  have to finish her duties

And with that  We finished our lesson today and explained a few different ways to give advice and we go to know every single way .
